Use this free Army Fitness Test (AFT) calculator to instantly calculate your score across all five events: Maximum Deadlift (MDL), Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP), Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC), Plank (PLK), and the 2-Mile Run (2MR).
This calculator is built for the updated Army Fitness Test standards as of May 2025 and gives soldiers a clear event-by-event score breakdown so they can identify strengths, weaknesses, and where to improve next.
Learn how to improve each Army Fitness Test event with targeted training strategies, common mistakes, exercise selection, and video breakdowns designed specifically for soldiers preparing for the AFT.
MDL
Maximum Deadlift
The Maximum Deadlift measures lower-body strength, posterior chain development, grip strength, and total-body power. Strong MDL performance depends on technique, bracing, progressive overload, and consistent strength training.
HRP
Hand-Release Push-Up
The Hand-Release Push-Up measures upper-body endurance, pressing strength, shoulder stability, and trunk control. Improving HRP performance requires practicing the event standard while building chest, triceps, shoulders, and core endurance.
SDC
Sprint-Drag-Carry
The Sprint-Drag-Carry tests speed, power, agility, anaerobic conditioning, and the ability to recover under fatigue. Most soldiers improve by training acceleration, sled drags, carries, lateral movement, and repeat sprint conditioning.
PLK
Plank
The Plank measures core endurance, body control, and the ability to maintain tension under fatigue. Better plank performance comes from practicing long holds, improving breathing, and strengthening the abs, obliques, glutes, and shoulders.
2MR
2-Mile Run
The 2-Mile Run measures aerobic fitness, pacing, running economy, and mental toughness. Improvement usually requires a mix of easy runs, threshold work, intervals, and consistent weekly mileage.
